Our first visit to Hillside Gardens was in the dead of winter. We thought we would go check it out and see what the venue was like since we had a few sessions scheduled for that venue that year. We were worried, to say the least. The cold and snow disguises what a garden will look like, and misdirects any ability to see it for what it could be. The truth is no matter where you go in Colorado, winter is just brown. Unless there is snow, then it could be awesome, but otherwise it is just brown. So it was with Hillside. With one of our wedding just two months or less away, we just had to cross our fingers and hope for the best. I couldn't believe how impressively green and lush that place got. Not only do the decorations throughout the garden give it unique character, the whole garden had become so beautiful. Having the pavilion placed to see Pikes Peak and the open areas able to block bright sun with easily drawn shades, Hillside garden will remain a favorite in Colorado Springs. Melanie is also a sucker for market lights (the style of light hanging in the background), so any place that has market lights is big draw for us. Using f2.8 helped blur out the background and the lights and helps bring focus to the couple. The light on them is actually a reflection from the sun from the floor and works wonders in the late afternoon.
