First Look with Father of the Bride

First Look with Father of the Bride

Oh how I love this image and the raw emotion it captures. I don't think a bride could ask for a better getting ready room than this elegant bridal suite overlooking downtown Colorado Springs. The Pinery at the Hill could not have created a more perfect backdrop for the makings of a beautiful wedding day. In fact, I'm pretty sure that this bridal suite is the venue's absolute best asset and I could go on about it forever since I love just about every photo I take in the room. This bride had a wonderfully emotional family, which we as photographers and artists crave. After getting into her gown with the help of her mother and sister, the tears started to flow. I usually see it well up first in the mother of the bride, typically as she finishes buttoning the dress or putting on the veil and finally steps back to take in her daughter. Next the bridesmaids entered the room. They were waiting patiently in the hallway and the tears started to fall again as I captured their faces from behind the camera. Then, it was time for the First Look with the father of the bride. I love these moments. There's just something that gets to me about watching a father look at his daughter, now a bride, for the first time. During these types of First Looks, I typically start by shooting the father's face first, then coming around to capture the bride's face. In this instance, I was also able to capture the mother of the bride's face while she silently watched in the background before I came around to shoot this image of the bride that you see now. This bride probably cried more than any other bride I'd shot, but she did it so elegantly that I kept hoping she would do it again! I was not disappointed throughout the remainder of the wedding day.
